I want to get back in shape. After being an athlete until my early 20s, I've allowed my health and fitness to decline steadily. I've maintained some semblance of a baseline, but efforts to get back in shape usually fizzle out quickly. There is no denying that I'm overweight, my endurance sucks, and I've been cognizant of the decline in my balance, reaction time, and mental sharpness as I've crept ever-so-close to age 40.
Over the years, I've enjoyed doing at-home workouts using Fitness Blender as a guide. While most of their content is free on their YouTube channel, I've used many of their inexpensive workout plans, which lay out their videos on a calendar grid, giving you a specific path toward your goals over time.
Drive to Survive opened my eyes to motorsports-focused training, which has stuck in my head for years. In DtS Season 1, I was captivated by the racers doing specific weight lifting and resistance band exercises aimed at sharpening their race skills: neck strength for holding up a helmet-clad head at 5 G's, rotating a heavy weight held in front as if it were a steering wheel, deep squats and leg presses for an hour and a half of pushing pedals.
Thus far I've only been able to find short clips and general summaries on how Formula 1 drivers train. Surprisingly, no Fitness Blender-type workout plans or guides for motorsports-focused physical training seem to exist.
I'm also interested in reflex- and agility-focused training tools such as Blazepod-style reaction light pods. Esteban Ocon can be seen using something similar in DtS S1E5.
